Calling all budding authors!

Calling all budding authors!

There is a national competition running for children under the age of 13 years old.

All you have to do is write an original story about anything you would like in 500 words or fewer.

Bring it in to school and we will help you to submit it online (or, if you would prefer, you can submit it yourself on bbc.co.uk/500words).

If you win this competition, your story will be read live on the radio by a celebrity and heard by over 10 million people! You will get the chance to go to a star studded event, alongside authors, celebrities and pop stars as well as her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, who is an honorary judge.

Here at Hilton, we want to celebrate our own talented authors so we have arranged an in school writing competition. If you think you can write a short story, have a go over half term and bring in your entries during the first week back. You can decide if you want to enter the national competition as well.

As a prize for being such a keen author, you will win the chance to meet David Almond. He is a famous published author and he will spend time with you, showing you how to perfect your writing and giving you lots of tips to make your ideas really stand out on the page ? what a brilliant opportunity!

If you want to, have a look at the website as there are lots of videos to help you. The closing date is the 25th February. If you would like to, you can bring it in for your teacher to look at and support you with when you get back to school.
