The rape and murder case against Vina in Cirebon, West Java in 2016 then re-emerged after seemingly stagnating for eight years until now.
The case of the murder of Vina and her lover, Eki, by members of an 11-person motorcycle gang has surfaced again after a film about it was screened in Indonesian cinemas for the past month. Moreover, only eight suspects have been arrested and tried, while three others – suspected masterminds of the crime – are still at large.
As Vina’s rape and murder case emerged, the public on social media also remembered a number of murder cases that had stagnated over the years.
Here are some cases of chronic murders that have not been completed to attract the attention of netizens:
Akseyna’s death at Lake UI in 2016
Akseyna, a UI Biology student was found lifeless at the bottom of Lake Kenanga UI, Depok, on March 26, 2015. The body was found with a backpack filled with stones as ballast. Once considered a suicide, Akseyna’s case was then suspected to be a murder case where the victim was drowned in the lake after further investigation after an autopsy at the Kramatjati Police Hospital.
Years later, until now the case has not been revealed.
Although many years have passed, details about how and who was responsible for Akseyna’s death are still unrevealed. The investigation is still ongoing, with hopes to uncover the truth behind this sad tragedy.
UI students through their various communities also ceaselessly ask for justice for Akseyna, by holding actions on the shores of Lake Kenanga every year every March.
One of them was on March 28, 2024, where student sympathizers including from BEM UI carried out the lakeside action. They hope that the campus and the authorities are serious in uncovering who is the perpetrator and mastermind behind the murder.
The stabbing of Noven a female vocational school student in Bogor recorded by CCTV
A vocational school student named Andriana Yubelia Noven Cahya (18) was found dead with stab wounds on Jalan Riau, Baranangsiang, Bogor City, West Java on January 8, 2019.
The perpetrator of the stabbing of the female student was recorded on surveillance cameras (CCTV) belonging to residents at the scene. The one-minute-six-second CCTV footage shows the seconds of a stabbing carried out by an unknown man remotely.
The perpetrator initially stood at the end of the mosque’s staircase alley leaning against the wall, seen waiting. A male student is seen passing by without suspecting the perpetrator. Then the perpetrator moved upward, at that time the victim was seen going down the stairs towards the bottom to Jalan Riau
The perpetrator then approached the victim who tried to avoid to the side of the road towards the wall. After that, the perpetrator pushed the victim to the ground, then fled in the direction where the victim came.
The victim who had been sitting tried to stand up, then collapsed. The victim also looked like he was enduring pain, still lying on the steps of the stairs. No victims’ belongings were missing, in the skirt pocket was still stored the mobile phone of the vocational school student.
When found the victim’s condition was drenched in blood due to a knife stab in the chest. The victim died with a sharp weapon stab wound of approximately three centimeters, in a wound of 22 centimeters.
In 2023, the murder case of vocational school student, Adriana Noven, was reopened by the police. Bogor City Police officers conducted a re-processing of the crime scene at the murder site. However, until now there has been no further development.
