West Java Regional Policehave arrested Pegi Setiawan alias Pegi alias Perong, one of three fugitives for the murder of Vina and Eky in Cirebon in 2016.
Pegi was secured by officers in Bandung, West Java, Tuesday (21/5). Then on Wednesday (22/5), West Java Regional Police and Cirebon Police officers searched the house suspected to be Pegi’s residence in Kepompongan Village, Talun District, Cirebon Regency.
One of the local residents in Kepompongan Village, Masniah (51) said the house searched was the residence of Pegi’s grandmother. Pegi, he said, was the eldest of four children and had been known to live in the house.
“If he (Pegi Setiawan) lives here with his mother, with 3 younger siblings at his grandmother’s house,” Masniah said as quoted from detikJabar.
To the knowledge of residents, Masniah said, Pegi had only been working as a builder in Bandung for a week until news of the arrest by West Java Regional Police this week.
“As far as I know, not long ago, about a week ago I went to Bandung to be a porter with my father,” he explained.
He also said that Pegi Setiawan had long worked as a construction porter.
“It’s been a long time since I worked as a construction porter,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Cirebon City Police Reskrim AKP Anggi Eko Prasetyo after conducting the search said that this search was a form of procedure in the investigation process.
The purpose of this search is in order to find evidence to assist the investigation process that is being handled.
“What we are looking for in this search is evidence that if it can help shed light on the investigation process that we are handling,” he said.
“We conducted this search from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. so it took us 3 hours,” said Anggi.
When asked what evidence was secured from Pegi Setiawan’s residence, he was reluctant to say in detail what items were secured from Pegi Setiawan’s residence.
“Because of the nature of the investigation, we are sorry that we have not been able to convey it. Of course, regarding developments when they can be conveyed to the public, those in charge of Public Relations will certainly convey them to the public, “he said.
Separately, the Head of Public Relations of West Java Regional Police, Kombes Pol Jules Abraham Abast, said that so far he had not assigned Pegi the status of the suspect.
“The current status (Pegi alias Perong) is as an alleged perpetrator who has the status of DPO. Of course, there is a process until later the determination of the suspect,” Jules said.
He stated that investigators from the West Java Regional Police Ditreskrimum would prioritize the principle of presumption of innocence in the process of examining Pegi. In addition, investigators will also conduct a series of deepening by asking for statements from a number of witnesses, including suspects who have previously been arrested.
“Yes (promoting the principle of presumption of innocence), the compatibility between evidence, both witness statements, suspect statements, expert statements, letters and instructions with existing evidence. We have to test this again, we have to do deepening,” he explained.
As for the other two DPOs, Jules confirmed that they would be arrested soon. Currently, the team is still working to arrest the two alleged perpetrators. “Including later there will be developments related to this case, later we will inform further,” he said.
