Police Check Eligibility of Dozens of Tourism Buses in Depok

The Depok Metro Police Traffic Unit together with the Transportation Office conducted a ramp check on dozens of tourism buses in the Depok City area, West Java.

Depok Metro Police Chief Multazam Lisendra said his party wanted to ensure the safety of buses that would be used for study tour activities.

“To jointly ensure the feasibility of buses that will carry out study tours or other activities,” Multazam said in a written statement, Monday (20/5).

Multazam explained that there were a number of aspects examined by officers. Among them, brakes, lights, and the general condition of the vehicle.

Multazam said, through inspection, it is expected that the buses used for study tours or other activities can be ensured to meet the safety standards that have been set.

“This activity is carried out as a preventive measure to reduce the number of road accidents, especially those involving tourism vehicles,” he said.

Multazam said that this examination had been carried out since Monday (13/5). During the week, he continued, there were at least 38 vehicles that were declared roadworthy.

“So the data from May 13-20, 2024 is 42 units, worth 38 units, not worth four units,” he said.

Furthermore, Multazam said buses that do not meet safety standards will be given warnings until the revocation of operational licenses if they do not immediately correct their shortcomings.

“A warning is given until the revocation of the operational license if it does not immediately correct the shortcomings,” he said.

Previously, the deadly accident that hit the bus of the Depok SMK group occurred on Saturday (11/5) at around 18.45 WIB on the downhill road, Ciater, Subang.

This incident claimed the lives of 11 people. The dead consisted of 9 students of SMK Lingga Kencana Depok, 1 teacher of SMK Lingga Kencana Depok, and a motorcyclist who was a resident of Subang.

In this case, the police later named Sadira as the bus driver as a suspect. He was charged with Article 311 Paragraph 5 of the Traffic Law of 2009 with a maximum imprisonment of 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp24 million.
