Indonesian Political Indicator Principal Researcher Burhanuddin Muhtadi said that one of the factors in the crushing advantage of the number two candidate pair Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 Presidential Election is the high participation of the younger generation.
According to him, the young people who exercised their right to vote on February 14 actually exceeded the national proportion. This was conveyed when releasing a review of the results of the 2024 Presidential Election exit poll.
“It turns out that of gen Z who exercised their right to vote in our sample, 23 percent. The national proportion is 22 percent. This means that it is not true that the assumption that the younger generation tends to abstain,” Burhanuddin said, quoted Friday (23/2).
“In fact, what we interviewed in this exit poll is greater than the proportion nationally. Even if we add up there are 58.7 percent (total gen Z and millennial generation),” Burhanuddin said.
According to Burhan, this factor is one of the reasons why Prabowo-Gibran is decisively superior. Burhanuddin said supporters of the couple came to the polling station.
“Especially from a young age. So the younger the voters, the more they vote for Mr. Prabowo. And it turns out that gen Z and millennials are in greater numbers than the national proportion exercising their rights on February 14,” he said.
“So we have one proof why Mr. Prabowo is leading hands down, one of which is from his support base from the young group that the turnover is bigger. It is precisely a lot of neglect from the education of the lower middle class, “he continued.
This Political Indicator exit poll was conducted at 3,000 polling stations spread across each constituency. The sample was selected by stratified two-stage random sampling method. A total of 2,975 respondents were interviewed.
While the margin of error is +/- 1.8 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
Exit poll itself is a method of knowing public opinion that is carried out shortly after someone comes out of the voting booth at the Polling Station (TPS). Generally, the questions asked tend not to be too many.
However, there is one piece of information unearthed in the exit poll. This information is the reason for voting so that the distribution of voter votes can be known more deeply.
