Lettu Eko Allegedly Committed Suicide After Being in Online Gambling Debt of IDR 819 Million

Jakarta, Hilton News

Navy member Lettu Eko Damara who committed suicide in Yahukimo, Papua Gunung, some time ago, is said to be in debt of up to Rp819 million. The matter is suspected to trigger Eko’s suicide.

Marine Corps Commander Major General (Mar) Endi Supardi explained that the debt included from fellow doctors, from colleagues in the task force, stalls in the operation area to banks. One of them, the money was allegedly used for online gambling.

“This means that he is unable to return, because borrowing money has also deceived the service. The reason for borrowing money to cover the previous unit was not paid either,” Endi said in a press conference at Mako Marinir, Monday (20/5).

“Finally, money is not in the form of goods, in the task force does not buy anything, in the family also does not receive anything, used for online gambling. The hope is that the task there can return the money, it is not, time is running out, so take steps like this,” he added.

Endi said from a forensic digital examination on Eko’s mobile phone, a history of online gambling application downloads was found.

Download online gambling, so connect why the person concerned committed suicide. So if I see the message conveyed, this Task Force is three weeks away from returning, he is afraid of the situation because he has to return, while not ready,” he said.

In addition, Endi said from the digital forensic examination, Eko’s cellphone found a lot of search history ‘how to die quickly’.

“He has learned how to learn to die, die quickly, die imperceptibly, from googling. Again, we actually don’t want to say it like this, but so that this news is not confused, because it’s as if the Marines are silent,” Endi said.

Previously, the victim’s family felt something was wrong with Eko’s death. Abdul Sattar’s uncle said the victim was initially reported dead inside the bathroom. According to information received by the family, Eko died by suicide with a gunshot wound to the head.

“We received a call that the deceased Marine Lieutenant Dr Eko Damara was declared dead, found in the bathroom with a gunshot wound to the head. Then asked the family what the cause was, who blew up, they said they would be informed after arriving at the funeral home,” Abdul said quoted detik.com, Monday (20/5).

Abdul said after the incident, Dr. Eko’s body was immediately washed and shrouded. Then, Lettu Eko’s body departed from Papua and arrived at Stabat, Langkat Regency, on Monday, April 29, 2024.

“Well that day was also informed, the body after being washed, shrouded, continued to be dispatched. It was evacuated from the site using a helicopter and continued to be carried, arriving at the funeral home at around 3 pm on April 29, 2024,” he said.

The family is already suspicious of Eko’s death. As a result, after the body arrived, the family opened the victim’s shroud and found a number of bruises on Eko’s body. In addition, there are also traces of cigarette sundation on the back. In a press conference today, the Marine Corps confirmed that based on the results of the investigation, Eko did commit suicide shooting in the head with an SS2-VI weapon.
