President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and ministers agreed to form an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force (Satgas) to eradicate the cash game.

The agreement was taken after Jokowi held an internal meeting with a number of Advanced Indonesian Cabinet Ministers at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (22/5).

“According to the direction of the President, an online gambling task force will be formed where the chairman is the Minister of Police, the head of the prevention sector is the Minister of Communication and Information, and the head of enforcement is the Chief of the National Police,” said Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Ranu (22/5).

Budi hopes that with the formation of the task force, the practice of online gambling as a whole can be eradicated so that it can create a safer and healthier digital environment for all citizens.

Budi revealed that during the period from July 17, 2023 to May 21, 2024, the government had succeeded in taking down 1,904,246 online gambling content. In addition, the government also blocks e-wallet accounts affiliated with online gambling.

“The blocking of e-wallet accounts affiliated with online gambling has been 5,364 for accounts, and has been submitted to the OJK and 555 e-wallets submitted to Bank Indonesia,” he explained.

In addition, according to him, the government also continues to make other efforts such as coordinating with a number of platforms that make changes to keywords or gambling keywords. Thus, the eradication of online gambling is targeted to be completed up to the upstream level.

“The keyword_judi change occurred at Google with 20,241 keyword_baru and at Meta there were 2,637 new keyword_m, which we continue to pursue so that we can complete the eradication of online gambling at the upstream level,” he added.

Furthermore, Budi also highlighted the phenomenon of ‘phishing’ or infiltration of online gambling content into a number of educational and government institutions.

According to him, there were 14,823 online gambling content that was inserted into educational institutions, and more than 17,001 content found infiltrating government and educational institution websites.
