Observers Value Prabowo’s Apology Can Boost Electability

Political observer Arifki Chaniago who is also the Executive Director of Algebra Strategic assessed that the apology of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto in the closing statement at the last presidential debate would be able to bring electoral benefits to the Prabowo-Gibran Rakabuming couple.

Arifki said the value of unity echoed by Prabowo since the beginning of the debate meant inviting voters who had not yet made a choice to strengthen their hearts.

“In addition to showing the value of unity on the one hand, it is also interesting when his message reaches voters 01 or 03 who may still be hesitant about the narrative conveyed by 01 or 03. And when these hesitant voters consider to choose a safe path, this will electorally benefit Mr. Prabowo,” Arifki said in an official statement, Monday (5/2).

Through the closing statement, Prabowo is considered to show an attitude of wanting to embrace, as well as lead the people, including those who did not make a choice for him.

For Arifki, the message of unity and unity is more important, considering that the 2024 presidential election is only a matter of days.

“On the other hand, Mr. Prabowo also wants to embrace both those who did not vote or those who supported him. Because indeed Mr. Prabowo admits that the three paslons are the best sons of the nation and the debate has ended,” he said.

This, continued Arifki, was reflected through Prabowo’s diction election towards the end of the 2024 presidential election campaign period.

“Prabowo plays more on the narrative of unity and harmony, the first thing is that Mr. Prabowo apologizes to all Paslon,” Arifki said.

As a closing statement at the last debate of the candidates, Prabowo specifically conveyed an apology for things that were not pleasing to the other two candidates.

Prabowo also expressed an apology for realizing that Indonesia’s unity and unity have recently been affected by the 2024 presidential election.

“Dear countrymen and sisters, we have just, in recent months, carried out a campaign full of passion, full of contestation, and sometimes full of strong words. However, our intentions are good, I think the 3 candidates all want the best for the Indonesian people,” Prabowo said on Sunday (4/2) night.

“I, on behalf of Prabowo-Gibran and on behalf of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition, apologize to Paslon 1, Pak Anies-Pak Muhaimin, and Paslon 3, Pak Ganjar and Pak Mahfud, if in this campaign there are our words or our actions that are not pleasing. We apologize profusely,” he continued.
