Observers say world leaders congratulate Prabowo for legitimacy

Jakarta, Hilton News

Political Indicator Executive Director Burhanuddin Muhtadi responded to congratulations from world leaders to the number 2 presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. According to him, these remarks have a very important and strategic meaning.

Burhanuddin said the congratulations to Prabowo from world leaders had an impact on domestic politics that gave it some kind of legitimacy informally, although the KPU has not announced an official statement.

It is known based on the results of quick calculations from various survey agencies, the Prabowo-Gibran pair is ahead by a percentage that is quite far from its two opponents. From the Kompas R&D survey agency, Prabowo-Gibran won 58.45% while from the Political Indicator, the number 02 pair received 58.08% of the votes.

“So it gives a kind of symbolic meaning that without having to wait for the formal process to be completed at the KPU level because the calculation process is carried out in stages, world leaders already know even though they are still unofficial, but most likely the quick count results will not differ much from the real count results of the KPU,” Burhanuddin said on Thursday (14/3).

Burhanuddin added that the meaning of the congratulations was in the international context, namely reporting the process of transitioning national leadership without causing turmoil, even though it was still waiting for the inauguration process until October 2024. That is, leaders of world countries have ‘prepared’ for the transition process of Indonesian leadership from President Joko Widodo to Prabowo.

“It seems that there have been preparations among world leaders that after President Jokowi, Prabowo will continue,” Burhanuddin said.

For information, several state leaders have congratulated Prabowo, including Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese; Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong; Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi; Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim; and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Congratulations also came from Russian President Vladimir Putin; British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak; Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala; French President Emmanuel Macron; and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
