Presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto, said his party plans to provide a cultural endowment fund to help Indonesian cultural actors preserve culture.
“We Prabowo-Gibran plan to have a cultural endowment fund to encourage support for all actors, actors of our culture,” Prabowo said during the fifth presidential debate held by the KPU at JCC Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (4/2).
Prabowo considers cultural preservation is very important, because culture is the character of the Indonesian nation. Without maintaining culture, he said, it is tantamount to not maintaining the identity of the nation.
“Culture is very important. Culture is the character of the nation. Without boasting, respecting, preserving our own culture, we lose our identity as a nation,” he said.
Prabowo himself has also served for pencak silat since 37 years ago. Currently, he serves as Chairman of the General Board of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (PB IPSI) for the 2021-2025 service period.
“This is an absolute must for us. Our culture as an example of martial arts inherited from our ancestors, I myself have been in charge of martial arts for 37 years. Not to mention other cultures such as ballet dance, coolie puppets, people puppets, golek puppets and all kinds of our music,” he added.
In line with that, he emphasized that the government must intervene directly and become a pioneer in helping cultural preservation and helping the people in all other fields.
“The government is not just a regulator, the government is in front, a pioneer, intervenes when necessary works for the people, helps. And in the field of culture, the government must also be at the front of preserving all our culture, in all fields,” he said.
Prabowo also admitted that he was open to various ideas related to cultural preservation efforts conveyed by paslon number one and three. “If it’s a good idea from anywhere I can accept it and I can support it,” he said.
In addition to helping cultural actors, according to him, museums, sites to sultans’ palaces must also be considered for sustainability. Because, it is also part of the historical heritage of the country.
“Guarding sites, helping museums, helping our sultan’s palaces which are already about to collapse. This we have to help, this is our cultural heritage, our historical heritage. We must pay attention to such things,” Prabowo said.
