Overcoming Shortage, Prabowo Wants to School 10 Thousand Prospective Doctors

Jakarta, Hilton News

Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto said he encouraged the realization of a program that sent 10 thousand doctors to answer the needs of hundreds of thousands of doctors in Indonesia.

At the fifth presidential debate held in Senayan, Jakarta, Prabowo said that the government must take emergency steps to address current health problems, including a shortage of doctors.

“I think the problem is quite clear, we lack 140 thousand doctors,” Prabowo said on Sunday (4/2) night.

The strategy of sending doctors to school can be implemented through a number of methods. Among other things, sending them to learn, or by encouraging experts to teach.

In addition, Prabowo also proposed adding a medical faculty.

“I agree to also invite professors to teach at us. I propose that from 92 medical faculties, we increase by 300 medical faculties,” he said.

Prabowo then gave the example of the Atambua region in East Nusa Tenggara which only has one doctor serving several districts at once.

According to Prabowo, the region should have at least a dozen doctors.

“In Atambua, there is one hospital where there should be 16 doctors, only 1 doctor. So he was overwhelmed, he had to serve three counties,” he said.

The next step that Prabowo is also ready to take, is to support infrastructure, namely by building modern hospitals in every district and city throughout Indonesia.

“In the health sector we will build modern hospitals in every district and city, and modern health centers in every village throughout Indonesia,” Prabowo said.
